Summary:
A Taxi driver had to remove a cross from his dashboard because according to some people it looked 'phallic'. This opinion about the cross came from a 15-year-old boy who told teachers about the blue glass cross. The taxi driver was not aware of this problem at all until council bosses emailed his taxi company because of a complaint of the boy's school. The taxi driver removed the cross after receiving the complaint because he did not want his taxi company to lose the contract with the council and he was worried he would lose his job. Although removing the cross, the taxi driver was very angry about it. He already had the cross for 18 months is his car and he regularly goes to church. There were not any problems before about the cross. According to the news article he said: "being known for picking up teenagers with a phallic symbol in his car reflected badly on him". The taxi company however said that there was nothing wrong with the cross.
Opinion:
I think it is ridiculous and exaggerated. I saw a picture of the cross in the newspaper and it did not look phallic at all. Also the man was not aware of any problems the cross could cause and the boy could have ask the taxi driver why he had that cross in his cab. That way the taxi driver could have explained it was based on religious ground and did not mean any harm with the cross. Despite of finding the reaction of the boy exaggerated, I do think it is good the taxi driver removed the cross after the complaint. That way the taxi driver prevents problems between his taxi company and the councils and with the school of the boy.
