Teacher’s Union: Supper staff taking too many lessons

Summary:
According to a teacher’s union schools are using staff without a qualified teacher status, which will be an abuse in the wrong circumstances. According to Chris Keates the government was encouraging the idea of using staff without qualification to save money. Not all people agree with this. There is a debate for a resolution on the subject. The resolution is that schools are allowed to use staff without qualified status only to cover short-term absences, allow teachers to plan and prepare for classes, or when all attempts to obtain a qualified teacher have failed. To support this idea The NASUWT (National Association of Schoolmasters/ Union of Women Teachers) gave an example of a teaching assistant who taught a class for three years despite not being qualified. Also teaching assistants with a higher level of qualification are allowed to give lessons but not to teach new lesson material, because that should be done by a qualified teacher. According to Ms Keates support staff are valuable for the education team and that they do an excellent job.

Opinion:
I think it is a nice idea to have teaching assistants, because they can take over the job when the qualified teachers are ill or when there is a deficiency of teachers. On the other hand I agree with people who do not agree with these teaching assistants because they think qualified teachers are only the best for pupils. Of course qualified teachers are better than teaching assistants, because they possess more educational knowledge and they mostly have more experiences. I agree with the resolutions given in the news article. Because when all attempts to obtain a qualified teacher have failed, there is no other solution to use staff without qualified status. I also agree that teaching assistants are not allowed to teach new lesson material, it is better for pupils to leave that on the qualified teachers. On the other hand I think Ms Keates has a good point that staff are valuable for the education team and I think they will perform just fine, because I suppose they love the education business.

  1. Hi Relinde, a very interesting topic because it is about teachers. I also agree with you, on the other hand I think it is ok for those assistant teachers to give lessons, but I also understand people who don't like this. so i'm with you, I understand both sides! It was interesting to read, not a lot of grammar mistakes. Good job
